Stop Carbs. Make Diet Craze This Year!!!

Stop Carbs. Make Diet Craze This Year!!!

Stop Carbo!!!

Watch what you eat can get crazy.
Here's the skinny on those popular weight-loss programs!

So you’ve decided to reduce the carbohydrate in your diet. Now what? It’s time to think ahead a bit so you can have your best chance of success.

THE SOUTH BEACH DIET

The South Beach Diet  (SBD) is originally designed for patients with Heart Disease. But because it promote weight loss, SBD became a popular diet. Compared to Atkins, SBD is a little complicated . It has a daily meal program that should be followed . It allows some carbohydrates , fats and sweets depending on it's kind ( labeled as 'good ' or bad ) .

HOW TO : SBD has three phases . A drastic change in a dieters eating habit will be on the first two weeks, the phases  1. In this phase , only lean cuts  of meat , low-fat and non-fat milk and cheeses, vegetables , unsweetened or artificially sweetened desserts are allowed. No fruits , juices , bread , pasta, rice, corn, carrots, potatoes, processed foods, sausages, poultry, hotdog , pastries , ice cream , etc.. In phase 2, fruits and " good carbs " like rice and cereals are reintroduced. In phase 3, the ideal weight should be achieved or at least close to it.

PROS : There is no calorie counting and food portion consideration as long as you stick to the program indicated in the book. There's no skipping of meals in the program ; you must have the daily breakfast , lunch , AM and PM snacks and dinner. Many confirm it's effectivity in losing weight.

CONS : Again, It's a major change in eating habit. You must have a copy of the book to thoroughly understand SBD. Some of the ingredients in the meals are not readily available in the market.  However, there are restaurants that deliver SBD meals at your doorstep for $5.10-$7.00 per day, quite costly!

THE ATKINS DIET

The Atkins Claims that people on the high-protein, high-fat, low carbohydrate diet lose twice as much weight    over six months . However , There are also some alarming studies saying high protein diets like atkins can lead to acidic urine ,which diminishes calcium from the body that may later increase rick for osteoporosis and kidney stones.

HOW TO: In the first two weeks , only up to 20 grams of carbohydrates are allowed per day.In this period, milk, milk products, fruits, cereals, breads, grains, legumes, potatoes, peas, corn, carrots, chips, cakes , candies, crackers are not allowed. However, there's no limit on the grams of carbohydrates to the diet are allowed weekly until desired weight is archieved. In the " maintenance phase " dieters must not go beyond  more than 40 to 90 grams of carbohydrates.

PROS : You lose weight quickly and the diet is easy to follow, just take note of the " restricted " foods. Studies from the New England Journal of Medicine and Annals of internal Medicine reported that atkins improves cases of heart disease. ( But other studies have claimed otherwise )

CONS : The amount of carbohydrates intake allowed in the diet even at the maintenance phase is too little as to what nutritionist define in the recommended daily allowance (RDA). Restricting carbohydrates mean eating low-fiber foods, which can cause constipation. Being on the diet for too long and processing all that fat may severely damage your kidneys. ( We knew eating all that fat had a catch. )

THE AFTER-SIX

There is no formal study or a single expert behind this form of ' diet ". Actually, it's more of fasting than dieting. After-six works in trimming down excess weight for a logical reason: since there are lesser activities at night , the body slows down metabolism and restricting calorie intake causes weight loss. Fasting at night means the digestive system will just have to digest the residual " unprocessed " ones from the earlier meals.

HOW TO : The concepts is very simple ---no eating when the clock strikes 6 PM. This means saying goodbye to late dinner and the occasional midnight snack. Only Water and fruits juices are allowed for intake of six.

PROS : After a week or two , weight loss can be observed. This is so because after-six prevents excess calorie build-up at night where there is not much activity.

CONS : It's a drastic change in your eating habit---skipping or having early dinner. Starvation is one big problem . And if you have a lot of things to do at night like studying for an exam, after six is not for you since your brain needs energy to absorb what you're studying.

Despite all the hype these fad diets are getting, experts will say that nothing can replace a balance diet. " there are different dietary needs depending on age , gender , occupation and lifestyle. Athletes and students with active lifestyles for example, have a greater nutritional need. " Nutritionist  and dieticians are not into fad diets. Instead they note four keys to achieve a healthy lifestyle : variety of foods, balanced diet , eating by moderation , and enough exercise to burn excess fats.

Thinking of taking on a diet, be sure to do the following first:

1) RESEARCH. There are a lot of websites in all types of diets, make sure to read up the case studies and what dietary say. Read Books and Magazines.

2) TELL YOUR PARENTS. Get as much support as possible . This will be a great help.

3) CONSULT A NUTRITIONIST. Ask a nutritionist if you really need to diet or if the diet you are planning to try suits your lifestyle. Nutritionists may have a better dietary plan that is better for you than the diet that worked for your friend.

4)CONSULT A DOCTOR. Have a check up if the diet will be safe for your body.

The Pilot Ghost of Time Square

The Pilot Ghosts of Time Square

He had just graduated from Harvard University and was living in Manhattan. He loved the city and was beginning to feel at home on its streets. World War II was raging in Europe, and like all other good citizens, he followed the headlines daily and did his part for the boys overseas.
Hugging his jacket close, he stood shivering at the corner, waiting for the light to change and wondering where his enlisted friends might be staying on that cold winter night. He hoped they were safe. He shivered, only partially from the cold, and looked around him at the bright lights of Times Square. He never tired of this glittering scene.

His eye was caught by two men who were dressed in the uniforms of the Royal Air Force of England. They must be on leave, he thought. The men stopped beside him, glanced quickly at their watches, and then nodded and grinned at him. The taller of the two asked him, in the clipped accent of the British, if this was Times Square. He suppressed a smile at such a touristy question and said that it was.

The light changed, and the two RAF pilots fell into step with the Harvard graduate as he crossed the street. The three men fell into conversation together as they meandered along the shining streets. The Brits were thrilled to be in Times Square after all they had suffered in the war. They didn't go into detail about their wartime experiences, and he didn't press them. He just enjoyed their pleasure in the scene, which was marred only by the frequent checking of their watches. Finally, he asked if they had someplace to be, but they said they were free for the evening. He promptly invited them to have dinner with him at the Harvard Club, and the RAF pilots accepted with alacrity.
The three men repaired immediately to the Harvard Club, where they dined leisurely and chatted late into the evening. The RAF pilots were good company and told many stories, although they glossed over their experiences in the war. They continued to check their watches frequently throughout the night, but he decided it was just a nervous habit they had picked up somewhere - possibly in the air force.

As midnight approached, the two RAF pilots excused themselves are rose from the table. They thanked the Harvard man for a memorable evening and started for the door. Then the tall pilot turned back and told their host that they had always wanted to visit Times Square, but never had the opportunity. It was strange, the pilot added, that they had to wait until after they were dead - killed in action when their planes were shot down the night before over Berlin - to fulfill this dream. The Harvard man stiffened, his eyes widening incredulously and his mouth falling open in shock. He gasped but could not speak. The phantom RAF pilot smiled sardonically at him, nodded, and joined his friend in the doorway. Then the pilots vanished before the astonished man's eyes, just at the stroke of twelve midnight.

FEAR-PHOBICS

Fear Facts: Why you should kick it out of your life NOW!

Have you ever wanted to move out of your parent's home and enjoy the kick-ass independent life , but were afraid to leave your comfort zone? have you ever wanted to quit your dead0end job , but were too frightened to turn in your resignation letter ? have you ever had a list of dreams and goals that you couldn't fulfill , only because fear stopped you from doing so?
Danica Faint, 25, lawyer admits that she fears a lot of things ., " I fear talking to  my crush , because he might find me boring . I fear the water , so i stay away from the sea or the pool every time we'd have an outing," she laments . I'm even afraid of chatting up my boss, because he might think I'm stupid!"

Every has her own catalogue of fears , and it's only normal. It's good that we experience feart and anxiety; otherwise , we'd be at risk for harm," says Dr.MARGO C. WATT.

When fear is  present in your life too much , it prevents you from living a full life and having a grand time. BRYAN GOLDEN. The effect of  fear are far reaching . Fear can thwart success , obscure opportunities , inhibit personal growth . induce depression , and encourage inactivity ." This just prove  that fear - the kind that overwhelms  and paralyzes you----------should be sent to exile ASAP.

 FACING FEARS UPFRONT

Have you ever been so afraid of failing at something that you decided not to try it at all? Or has a fear of failure meant that, subconsciously, you undermined your own efforts to avoid the possibility of a larger failure?
Many of us have probably experienced this at one time or another. The fear of failing can be immobilizing – it can cause us to do nothing, and therefore resist moving forward. But when we allow fear to stop our forward progress in life, we're likely to miss some great opportunities along the way.

CAUSES OF FEAR
To find the causes of fear of failure, we first need to understand what "failure" actually means.
We all have different definitions of failure, simply because we all have different benchmarks, values, and belief systems. A failure to one person might simply be a great learning experience for someone else.
Many of us are afraid of failing, at least some of the time. But fear of failure (also called "atychiphobia") is when we allow that fear to stop us doing the things that can move us forward to achieve our goals.
Fear of failure can be linked to many causes. For instance, having critical or unsupportive parents is a cause for some people. Because they were routinely undermined or humiliated in childhood, they carry those negative feelings into adulthood.
Experiencing a traumatic event at some point in your life can also be a cause. For example, say that several years ago you gave an important presentation in front of a large group, and you did very poorly. The experience might have been so terrible that you developed a fear of failure about other things. And you carry that fear even now, years later.

 Signs of Fear of Failure
You might experience some of these symptoms if you have a fear of failure:
  • A reluctance to try new things or get involved in challenging projects.
  • Self-sabotage - for example, procrastination, excessive anxiety, or a failure to follow through with goals.
  • Low self-esteem or self-confidence – Commonly using negative statements such as "I'll never be good enough to get that promotion," or "I'm not smart enough to get on that team."
  • Perfectionism – A willingness to try only those things that you know you'll finish perfectly and successfully.

"Failure" – A Matter of Perspective

It's almost impossible to go through life without experiencing some kind of failure. People who to do so probably live so cautiously that they go nowhere. Put simply, they're not really living at all.
The wonderful thing about failure is that it's entirely up to us to decide how to look at it. We can choose to see failure as "the end of the world," or as proof of just how inadequate we are. Or, we can look at failure as the incredible learning experience that it often is. Every time we fail at something, we can choose to look for the lesson we're meant to learn. These lessons are very important; they're how we grow, and how we keep from making that same mistake again. Failures stop us only if we let them.

It's easy to find successful people who have experienced failure. For example:

  • Steve Jobs was fired from Apple in 1985. Yet he returned in 1997, and was instrumental in helping the company develop products such as the iMac, iPod, and iPhone.

  • Warren Buffet, one of the world's richest and most successful businessmen, was rejected by Harvard University.

  • Richard Branson, owner of the Virgin empire, is a high school dropout.

Most of us will stumble and fall in life. Doors will get slammed in our faces, and we might make some bad decisions. But imagine if Michael Jordan had given up on his dream to play basketball when he was cut from that team. Imagine if Richard Branson had listened to the people who told him he'd never do anything worthwhile without a high school diploma.
Think of the opportunities you'll miss if you let your failures stop you.
Failure can also teach us things about ourselves that we would never have learned otherwise. For instance, failure can help you discover how strong a person you are. Failing at something can help you discover your truest friends, or help you find unexpected motivation to succeed.
Often, valuable insights come only after a failure. Accepting and learning from those insights is key to succeeding in life.

Overcoming a Fear of Failure
It's important to realize that in everything we do, there's always a chance that we'll fail. Facing that chance, and embracing it, is not only courageous -- it also gives us a fuller, more rewarding life.
However, here are a few ways to reduce the fear of failing:

  • Analyze all potential outcomes – Many people experience fear of failure because they fear the unknown. Remove that fear by considering all of the potential outcomes of your decision. Our article Decision Trees will teach you how to map possible outcomes visually.
  • Learn to think more positively – Positive thinking is an incredibly powerful way to build self-confidence and neutralize self-sabotage. Our article Thought Awareness, Rational Thinking, and Positive Thinking is a comprehensive resource for learning how to change your thoughts.
  • Look at the worse-case scenario – In some cases, the worst case scenario may be genuinely disastrous, and it may be perfectly rational to fear failure. In other cases, however, this worst case may actually not be that bad, and recognizing this can help.
  • Have a contingency plan – If you're afraid of failing at something, having a "Plan B" in place can help you feel more confident about moving forward.
Goal Setting
If you have a fear of failure, you might be uncomfortable setting goals. But goals help us define where we want to go in life. Without goals, we have no sure destination
Many experts recommend visualization as a powerful tool for goal setting. Imagining how life will be after you've reached your goal is a great motivator to keep you moving forward.
 what can you do instead?
Start by setting a few small goals. These should be goals that are slightly, but not overwhelmingly, challenging. Think of these goals as "early wins" that are designed to help boost your confidence.

For example, if you've been too afraid to talk to the new department head (who has the power to give you the promotion you want), then make that your first goal. Plan to stop by her office during the next week to introduce yourself.

Or, imagine that you've dreamed of returning to school to get your MBA, but you're convinced that you're not smart enough to be accepted into business school. Set a goal to talk with a school counselor or admissions officer to see what's required for admission.

Try to make your goals tiny steps on the route to much bigger goals. Don't focus on the end picture: getting the promotion, or graduating with an MBA. Just focus on the next step: introducing yourself to the department head, and talking to an admissions officer. That's it.
Taking one small step at a time will help build your confidence, keep you moving forward, and prevent you from getting overwhelmed with visions of your final goal.

Harold Wazowski Brown
Fear of failure can be a symptom of a more serious mental health condition. If fear of failure affects your day-to-day life, it's important to speak with your doctor to get advice.
Many of us sometimes experience a fear of failure, but we mustn't let that fear to stop us from moving forward.
Fear of failure can have several causes: from childhood events to mistakes we've made in our adult lives. It's important to realize that we always have a choice: we can choose to be afraid, or we can choose not to be.
Start by setting small goals that will help build your confidence. Learn how to explore and evaluate all possible outcomes rationally and develop contingency plans; and practice thinking positively. By moving forward slowly but steadily, you'll begin to overcome your fear of failure.

Teen Beating In the Society

              Teen Beating In the Society

After seeing it , my heart aches,” about a video posted in the Net showing three girls from Guangdong China beating a helpless girl. The video sparked a lengthy thread, with comments like “ I cannot finish watching, truly too detestable. Are they cold blooded animals “ and within in seven minuets , kicked over 70 times! With each kick , my heart shook, and with the 45th kick, she even had her head  stepped on! Where did their humanity go!

PUBLIC ACTS

H>>Curious about how disturbing the video really was, I clicked play.,.,. and felt the same outrageous. In fact , I also couldn’t watch the entire clip., The victim had her hair pulled , her head smashed on the ground, and her face and body kicked , and all these happened on the street!

H>>In the Philippines , teen beating incident are mostly seen on the context of  “RAMBOL”  between “ BARKADA’S “ or gangs, usually from marginalized areas. But “ Teen beating has been going on in our country for a long time” . A lot of the cases , however , are not documented or reported by the victims themselves and or their respective families. Although the issue may not seems so pressing from a distance and appear to be pretty  fights , the fact that it happened is alarming enough.

CAUSES
Teen beating is just of the many faces of teen violence. In order for us to understand the root of teen beating, we must first find out, Why do teens resort to violence to deal with their issues in the first place…….

1.ATTENTION DEFICIT/HYPERACTIVITY…
This is one of the more common mental disorder in child and when left untreated ,can have adverse effects to an individuals during his/her adolescence and adulthood.

2.INVOLVEMENT WITH DRUGS,ALCOHOL OR TOBACCO…
These vices tend to intoxicate the mind and hamper one’s judgement. This could lead individuals and group to act without regard for what’s right and wrong , and prevent them from properly weighing the consequence of that act .

3.EXPOSURE TO VIOLENCE AND FAMILY CONFLICT...
The environment one grew up in is also a factor,., if an adolescent was exposed to a chaotic life as a child ,with a parent who is habitually violent , for instance.

*PEER PRESSURE… We also can’t discount the contribution per influence might have on teen violence . As stated in Juvenile Delinquency, The core by Larry J. Siegel and Brandon C. Welsh, “ Although  parents are the primary source of influence and attention in children’s early years, Children between ages eight and the 14 seeks out a stable peer  group, and both the number and the variety of friendship increase as children go through adolescence. Friends soon begin to have greater influence over decision.,,., making than parents” .

Blogger Comment…
For me acknowledges this factor, sharing that, “ in some of the cases that I have personally come across, the teen perpetrators of violence all confessed that didn’t actually intend the results of their actions, either serious physical injuries suffered by the victims. But, because they were either coaxed by their group or were pushed to promote themselves , they were able to commit such reprehensible acts.”

SCOPE OF VIOLENCE

Just how  violent can the youth today really get? Guys aren’t the only ones who get themselves into brawls nowadays ,. Some girls and boys built notorious reputations for being tough fighter as well. And getting even ., for the boys and girls are no longer defined by , or even confined to, mere snotty looks, backstabbing., gossiping or calling each other names.

1. “ Pag galit na galit ka na kasi, minsan.,” words aren’t enough to release your anger. “ Parang gusto mo manakit.” So you’ll feel relieved , Max* 21, shares. Max is known for being a war freak even when he was in high school. When someone crosses his or his friends , his first reaction wold be “ halika, sugurin na natin! “ but before things went too far, his anger would subside and he’ll realized it was no longer worth it to start a fight.

2.Trixie*, 18,is different. When she’s mad, she tends to act violently and impulsively . she’s the type who throw things and has tantrums and a sharp tongue. In School, she belongs to a popular clique who stick together and often carry out revenge on girls who, in one way or another, get in their way. Once Trixie figured in a boy., related conflict with a batch mate and her friends waited for the girls outside their campus and initiated a physical fight.

H>>In essence , teen beating may be classified as a form of bullying because there’s a dominant party. Bullying is “ most usefully conceptualized as an ongoing social tie of competitive dominance and subordination.” Beating may happened instantaneously, with external factors playing a big part. Even a quiet teen may suddenly snap and engage in teen beating , but then beating is limited to physical means whereas bullying may be physical , verbal and even cyberspace . Bullying happens overtime , while beating is fuelled by the need to retaliate.

LEGAL CONSEQUENCES

In the Philippines , We had certain laws to address problems related to teen beating and  or violence which may be applied on a case to case basis. We have the “ANTI-HAZING LAW ( R.A 8049), ANTI-CHILD ABUSE LAW ( R.A 7610) and the JUVENILE JUSTICE & WELFARE ACT ( R.A 9344), all working under the provisions of the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines.

BLOGGER COMMENT…

This acts and laws was revised by penal code of the Philippines will amusedly applied in our country not just only for addressing and making that laws for no certain accused, it should be used in good way, perhaps here in the Philippines, the truth is were making laws but it doesn’t work and provide value!! Mind those politics member who makes policies! Pls! be remind that “ there’s no certain words who can do by mouth and wrote , but actions is the best way to enhance more”
Besides the physical pain and injury that one risks when engaging in teen beating , there are emotional wounds that can take a long time to heal. There are effective and productive means that can be employed , without having to resort to physical violence . As the classic ethical saying goes “ two wrongs do not make a right.”

CRAB MENTALITY INTO GAPI MENTALITY

 CRAB MENTALITY OF FILIPINO'S

In the time of era has done. We filipino's give importance for those weird action that is not good into it. Crab Mentality actually describe a kind of selfish, short-sighted thinking which runs along the lines of “if I can't have it, neither can you.” This term is especially widely used among Filipinos, who use it specifically to refer to people who pull other people down, denigrating them rather than letting them get ahead or pursue their dreams. As a general rule, an accusation of having a crab mentality is a poor reflection on someone's personality.

This concept references an interesting phenomenon which occurs in buckets of crabs. If one crab attempts to escape from a bucket of live crabs, the other crabs will pull it back down, rather than allowing it to get free. Sometimes, the crabs seem almost malicious, waiting until the crab has almost escaped before yanking it back into the pot. All of the crabs are undoubtedly aware of the fact that their fate is probably not going to be very pleasurable, so people are led to wonder why they pull each other back into the bucket, instead of congratulating the clever escape artist.
The crab mentality is a reflection of the famous saying “we all like to see our friends get ahead, but not too far ahead.” Learning to recognize the crab mentality in yourself is a very good idea, especially if you work or live in a highly competitive environment.

 Culture: Crab Mentality
" The Cancer of the World Society"

What do Charice Pempengco, Manny Pacquiao, Lea Salonga, Manny Villar, Arnel Pineda, and Efren Penaflorida all have in common? They are all dynamic, talented, and successful Filipinos who, at certain times in their careers, have tasted the bitter nauseating bile of Filipino Crab Mentality.
You have heard this term bandied about in the media, opinion columns and online forums and chat rooms.  It is so frequently used, but a lot of the times the exact definition is left to the imagination.  More often than not, it is used to just shut down somebody whose opinion does not comport with or agree with your opinion.  What exactly is Filipino crab mentality?  Where did it come from?  What does it apply to?  What does it say about Filipinos as a people, as a culture and where does it point us in terms of future direction?  Common usage of the term crab mentality is really to deal with seemingly and perceived negative opinions, assessments or criticisms.  It is almost as used as frequently as “inggit” or “inggit ka lang,” which is a phrase meaning you are just envious.  Basically it turns the argument from the focus of the criticism and assessment back to the person who was supposedly criticized or gave a negative opinion.  It is really an ad hominem because it puts the critic’s motives into a bad light.  More common than not, it is used to just silence otherwise valid critics

"THE HISTORICAL AND POLITICAL ROOTS OF CRAB MENTALITY"

What are the roots of crab mentality in the Philippines?  First of all, the notion of crab mentality is not unique to us as a people.  Mexicans and Black-Americans also use the term and it also impacts and draws from their history, however different those histories are from ours.  It is not a uniquely Filipino concept or trait.  In the Filipino context, the roots of crab mentality stem from fragmented national identity.  Like it or not, the Philippines is only a country because the Spaniards collected a series of violence under their sovereignty, spread Catholicism and put us under the administrative rule.  Prior to that, there was no such thing as a Philippines, not by a long shot.  The parts of the South were under the influence of the different Indonesian sultanates and Malayan sultanates.  Parts of Luzon had contacts with China.  Any concept of a Filipino national identity really just began with the Spaniards.  However, the concept of crab mentality does not draw from that specific fact.

BESIDES OF CRAB MENTALITY THERE IS ALSO,
        "GAPI MENTALITY "

1.WHAT IS THE ROLE IN OUR POVERTY!!
The Gapi mentality. This is the final myth regarding wealth in the Philippines. Gapi mentality is defined as the following: You have to explain the change in material wealth of another person in order to excuse your own personal failings and not achieving the same results. It then goes even deeper. You have to separate yourself from the people that moved up in the world because it would impact your ego. There are a lot of traditions and customs and mental constructs surrounding this concept. It takes many different forms. It can be as simple as somebody getting a job at a call center that pays 30,000 to 40,000 pesos a month, and the peers of that person working for less, like 20,000 or 15,000 pesos a month. Another common situation is somebody was sent by their company to work overseas in England while they are “stuck in the Philippines.” In whatever variation this takes, the arrangement of the players, the arrangement of the emotions involved is fairly straightforward. People get left behind by some sort of measure, whether it is economics, fiscal distance or social status. Instead of viewing it as an opportunity to be pushed to the next level to produce more, to achieve more, the mental incentive is to distance one’s self, to recast one’s self usually in a victim model. This means “because I’m a moral person I can’t get rich” or “because I’m Filipino I can’t get rich” or “because they are Chinese” or “because I was unlucky.”

The key here is to define away the problem by creating new differentiations that separate you from the harsh reality that maybe, just maybe, you and that person are really pretty much the same except that they chose a different path. They chose to sacrifice, they chose to work hard, they chose to take risks and everything gelled together and they made it happen through perseverance. But that may be too much to take. That’s maybe too much of a blow to the ego and too much hit to the pride. It is much easier to redefine yourself out of the equation maybe because you are poor, or you just came from a bad family, or because you are not Chinese.

These things are deeper than merely giving one’s self excuses for failure though. If it was just that, then it would be a purely individual affair. However, there is a cultural pattern to this. If you turn on the media, when you read lots of articles or opinion columns, there are many glimmers of this mentality. It has to stop. All these myths and all this mentalities have to stop because it creates a vicious cycle. It does not benefit anybody. Whatever benefits it may have is temporary and does not really lead to anything concrete or substantial. Definitely it does not lead to sustainable future. Unless we find a way to stop this thinking and these myths in general, we will never ascend from poverty – not now, not in the future.

The Lord continues to raise up those who understand the causes of poverty in the philippines – and the resources to respond the situation is improving with each passing decade.
Filipinos are a people of hope, work ethic, and resourcefulness, and the onslaught of poverty will slowly begin to be repelled and the victory won,and i'm proud to be a filipino.
Together we can all work to break the cycle of poverty in the Philippines and give these children a chance to live productive and happy lives.

Back n' TOP 10 Species 2011-2012

 TOP 10...new species!!

A sneezing monkey, a blue tarantula, and an extinct walking cactus are just three of the remarkable new species listed in the annual Top Ten New Species put together by the International Institute for Species Exploration at Arizona State University. This year's list includes a wide-variety of life forms from fungi to flower and invertebrate to primate.

"The top 10 is intended to bring attention to the biodiversity crisis and the unsung species explorers and museums who continue a 250-year tradition of discovering and describing the millions of kinds of plants, animals and microbes with whom we share this planet," explains Quentin Wheeler, an entomologist who directs the International Institute for Species Exploration.

 Top Ten New Species

1. This mysterious primate (seen here in a reconstruction) not only made headlines last year, but continues to do so as a population of the believed to be Critically Endangered species was recently found in China. The new monkey, the Myanmar snub-nosed monkey (Rhinopithecus strykeri), was discovered byway of a carcass killed by a local hunter. Since then camera trap photos and video have been taken of the species. They are reportedly easy to hunt as locals say their up-turned noses cause them to sneeze in the rain. Researchers believe only a few hundred survive.

2.This new jellyfish was named by high school teacher Lisa Peck for what she believed divers must say when they first see the beautiful animal . It is also called the Bonaire banded box jelly because it was spotted near the island of Bonaire in the Caribbean. The new jellyfish is venomous.

3.Hell has a new member: Halicephalobus mephisto. This super tiny (0.5 millimeter) nematode was discovered nearly a mile (1.3 kilometers) beneath the Earth's surface in a South African gold mine. Named after Mephistopheles, the demon character in Faust, the species has adapted to incredible underground pressures and had not had contact with the atmosphere for up to 6,000 years. This is a photo of the face of the nematode taken under scanning

4.This is the world's only known night-blooming orchid. Discovered in Papua New Guinea, this orchid open from 10 PM to early morning. It is named Bulbophyllum nocturnum, which means "at night".

5.This tiny wasp dive bombs ants from above, laying its eggs on the unsuspecting ants in less than 1/20 of a second even though the ants are giants to it. Named, Kollasmosoma sentum, it was discovered in Madrid, Spain.

6.Named after the popular kids cartoon character this fungi is called the SpongBob Squarepants mushroom (Spongiforma squarepantsii). Discovered in Malaysian Borneo, this mushroom resembles the sea sponge and when squeezed will spring back to its original form.

7.If you want to picture this species in real life: think of a sausage. Named the "wandering leg sausage" (Crurifarcimen vagans), this is now the world's largest millipede. Discovered in the species-rich Eastern Arc Mountains of Tanzania the new millipede is 16 centimeters (over six inches) long.

8.Belonging to an extinct group of little-known animals called the Lobopodia, this fossil species was given the name walking cactus (Diania cactiformis) for its resemblance to imagined trotting cacti. Discovered in China, the species was alive during the Cambrian, an incredible 520 million years ago.

9.Amazingly this is the first new species from Brazil to make this list. Sazima's tarantula (Pterinopelma sazimai), which is stunningly blue, is found on a single flattop mountain in the mega-biodiverse country.

10.This high-living poppy probably went unnoticed by scientists for so long because it lives above 3,290 meters (10,800 feet) in the wilds of Nepal. It is named Meconopsis autumnalis, because it flowers in the autumn.
